muppet glory, explained

Utter exhaustion. I did not fall asleep last night until sometime after 2:30am. I thought, as I lifted a 6pm glass of green tea, that it might not be the best idea, but I’ve been falling asleep right quick and often early thanks to getting up at 5:30am for ashtanga. So I drank. Not all bad—I was more productive yesterday than maybe all of September entirely. Or perhaps it just felt that way. Today? Not productive. Tired. I got up at 5:30am for ashtanga on less than 3hrs sleep. Ritual is good, and by Surya b I felt fine. That lasted until 3pm. Okay, maybe I’m babble-y and not so lucid, but I still want to share a few things.

I never expounded on the originalmuppet glory/bohemian rhapsody post, so I deleted and am reposting here. I found so much good stuff online that week but didn’t get a chance to share it. Now, to decide. Should I explain what inspired my Freddy fetish? No, George, it’s not cause he was Indian. It was a stats midterm in 2008. I won’t go into it now. Suffice it to say that I absolutely adore Queen. While I was packing or cleaning my old place, I heard this great interview with Brian  May on Fresh Air/npr, but I didn’t hear all of it and forgot to look it up. My friend, Peter, told me about it when I went all gaga over the muppets’ cover, with which May helped. He also chats about his astrophysics PhD dissertation on dust (A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud), and publishing a book, A Village Lost and Found, of stereographic, 19th century photos. Speaking of gaga, Lady G’s name was inspired by Queen’s song, Radio Ga Ga. So, certainly, I love her, too.

settling into the new home

California_1992-10_Rochdale004Photo: bedroom closet of my first apartment, in Berkeley, California. 1992.

Good word, after seven months of “I’m moving,” I’ve moved. After 8¼ years in Washington Heights in upper Manhattan, seven of which were happily lived in an art deco building near Fort Tryon Park, I’ve moved downtown. It’s incredible. I’m still settling in. Still, of course, archiving photos. I’m just entering 2003 in the archives.

Plenty to write about re: 2010, as it was a high drama move on many counts, but instead I will settle in quietly and post an old photo of my relatively huge closet (relative to that of my new place) in my first apartment circa 1992. It was a little 3-bedroom in Rochdale Village, part of the Berkeley Co-ops. Nice light, good space, not much charm. It was just behind the now defunct Cody’s Books on Telegraph (ugh), where I spent loads of time. I lived with an excellent friend I still love to visit (she moved east as well). Decided to move to New York while in that space. Obviously full of good vibes.
